The ice cream shop opened 34 years ago on Union Avenue in a building that's nearly half-a-century old, offering homemade products exclusively.
There will be more grass area for kids to play, public restrooms, barstools inside, and eventually picnic tables, the shop announced on Facebook.
In 2001, the Sigona family opened its second Gelotti location in Caldwell, at the site of the first Baskin-Robbins on the East Coast. Then came Gelotti of Montclair for a new generation of fans.
"A lot has changed in 30 years," its website says. "Technology, taste buds, trends, and even the reemergence of the frozen yogurt fad.
"But through it all Gelotti has always remained a staple in North Jersey desserts."
