SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — The enthusiasm for floral arrangements has yet to wilt for the owners of Teri's Florist in Saddle Brook

The Market Street flower shop opened in 1965 and remains in the same family and location 50 years later, current owner Nina Petruccelli said.

"We just love being part of the community," Petrucelli told Daily Voice. "The Saddle Brook community, they're wonderful people."

Petruccelli grew up with the shop as part of her family. Her mother, Theresa Greco, still helps out while approaching her 92nd birthday.

Even though they love what they do that doesn't mean it's always easy.

"It was always a lot of work," Petruccelli said. "People think it's fun to play with flowers. It's not play. Some mornings we're up until 2 or 3 [a.m.]."

February always accentuates the extra work as Valentine's Day approaches.

"Valentine's Day is crazy because it's one day," the owner said. "Christmas naturally pretty much runs from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas. Mother's Day people like their moms to enjoy their flowers all week long. But on Valentine's Day everyone wants their flowers on Valentine's Day."

Some aspects of the business changed over the years, Petruccelli said, as flowers become more available at sites other than florists. The quality remains higher at a florist, she said, as they have years of experience.

Petruccelli said her favorite part of the business is weddings.

"I love getting the notes afterward people send us that we captured their special moment," she said, "and we'll always be a part of the day."
