ELMWOOD PARK, NJ. -- At the Jan. 1 meeting of the Elmwood Park council, the mayor presented a centennial proclamation for borough residents.

The proclamation read:

"The celebration has now begun. A very successful Centennial Reception was hosted by our Committee on January 1st. MANY THANKS to Committee members who contributed.

January 1st Centennial Opening, many on the committee need to catch their breaths and focus on plans for upcoming centennial events. Therefore, there will not be a general meeting in January. The first 2016 General Meeting of the Centennial Committee will be held Tuesday evening, February 2nd.

A reminder will be sent closer to the meeting date. Committee chairpersons are asked to use this month to work out details of their events.

For the Centennial reception it featured a 20-foot table laden with sandwiches, cakes, cookies, desserts, and candy. On another table, punch, coffee and tea were served. The food was beautifully displayed, plentiful, and delicious. Warm thanks is extended to Carmela Cusmano, Hospitality Chair, who led the work detail, with her volunteer committee.

They shopped, baked, made sandwiches, set up the serving tables and contributed food. They include: Steve Cusmano Brenda and Bob Huffman Judy Peykus-Regan Linda and Bob Schlegel Theresa and Terrie Sheridan Kathy Karcz Gloria Spadaro Barbara von dem Hagen Maria Vuoncino Sonjia Woloshyn Debbie Alvarez Magdalena Giandomenico Chrissie Larsen."
