Elmwood Park Firefighters Launch Explorer Program For High Schoolers

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J.– The first meeting of the Elmwood Park Firefighters Explorers Post #1234 will take place at Company 3 on Sept. 8.

The program is open to high school students age 14 and up. 

"The purpose is to educate our youth in the field of the fire service and our goals are to motivate, educate, build self-esteem, confidence and friendship," Lt. James Mills told Daily Voice. 

The post is accepting members from Elmwood Park and its neighboring towns, Mills said. 

At 16, those who complete the program are eligible to become junior fire department members "helping to serve the community," Mills added. 

Company 3 is on Martha Avenue. 

Explorers are sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.

  • Firefighter;
  • EMT;
  • Paramedic;
  • Emergency services coordinator;
  • Shelter manager.

Fire and EMS career exploring is a hands-on program open to men and women with an interest in learning more about careers in the field of fire or emergency services, the website states.
