That is why he is hosting a self-defense workshop designed specifically for teachers this weekend.
“With everything that is happening in this day and age, teachers can utilize tactics to protect children and themselves,” Elayan told Daily Voice.
During the two-hour workshop, participants will learn how to defend themselves and children from various attacks, as well as practical techniques to defuse situations, Elayan said.
The physical skills that will be taught include effective striking, tactical take downs and joint locking. Although the workshop is designed specifically for teachers, others are welcome to attend.
It will take place on Sunday, Dec. 4, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Art of Self Defense, 15 Wallace St., Elmwood Park.
The cost is $20, and participants must register in advance.
