The grant money is among nearly $81 million in funding for projects to enhance the quality of life of people throughout New Jersey, according to a press release from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

The funding would come from the DEP’s Green Acres Program, but the legislature still must approve legislation to officially appropriate the funds.

The grant would allow Elmwood Park to make Birchwood Park safer, and require less maintenance, by installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant playground equipment, rubber playground surfacing and a vinyl perimeter, according to the DEP.

The park is located on Birchwood Drive between West Parkway and East Parkway.
