Nearly 200 people had contributed more than $17,600 in just over a week to help David Guerra, who volunteers with the Saddle Brook Angels' new lacrosse program, after he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The immediate goal is $20,000.

David, who just finished his freshman year at Saddle Brook High School, "is being raised by a single working mom who will now be forced to, at the very least, cut back her hours tremendously," wrote township resident Jo Jo Duffy, who established the "Help David beat Leukemia" GoFundMe page.

"If we can take a tiny bit of the stress off of her, so she can focus solely on David, that would be a tremendous help," Duffy wrote.

"I have seen, first hand, how our town can come together when one of 'our' kids is in need," Duff added. "David is one of 'our' kids and he needs our help."

"He is a great kid," the Sportsfriends club of Wayne wrote on its Facebook page.DONATE: https://www.gofundme.com/2gpwtry4
