SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- This past Saturday, local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts helped to replenish the food pantry of the First Reformed Church of Saddle Brook, which serves those in need in Saddle Brook and the surrounding towns.
Members of Saddle Brook Boy Scout Troop 213 and Cub Scout Pack 222 recently had a food drive at the Acme Supermarket in Saddle Brook, collecting nearly 100 bags of food, as well as cash donations.
"It's not just about camping for these boys," James Maniscalco, an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 213, told Daily Voice. "These events teach our boys how to give back to their community."
His wife, Monica, is secretary for the troop, and she was in charge of the event, Maniscalco said. The troop has a food drive twice a year.
As residents made donations, the boys handed out candy and little American flags.
The Scouts are grateful to all the donors -- and especially to three individuals who donated an entire shopping cart filled with nonperishable food and paper products. For more information about Troop 213, visit its website, and, for info on Pack 222, visit its website .
