William J. Mulligan VFW Post 5084 was re-christened over the weekend in the name of its former commander of 33 years.

Known as "Bump" and "Red," Mulligan died on Feb. 27, 2016 at the age of 71.

The lifelong borough resident and U.S. Army Vietnam veteran retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2001 after 35 years. He was a dedicated University of Notre Dame football fan and donated freely to sports programs in Elmwood Park.

His successor, Commander Chuck Keenan, made sure Mulligan's legacy lived on.

Mayor Robert Colletti was among the officials, family members and friends who gathered for Sunday's dedication.
