ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. – Happy birthday to Elmwood Park’s Sheena Iyengar!
Iyengar, an author and inspirational professor at the prestigious Columbia Business School, turns 46 today.
Known for her research on choice, culture and innovation, Iyengar was born in Toronto, Canada, on Nov. 29, 1969.
As a child, she was diagnosed with retinal degeneration. Despite being blind, she went on to pursue higher education and is now the inaugural S.T. Lee Professor of Business in Columbia’s Management Division, according to Wikipedia.
Iyengar’s work has earned her much recognition. She was the recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Social Scientists.
Her research has, Wikipedia said, been cited in Fortune and Time magazines, The New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal, as well as on numerous television programs, such as The Today Show and The Daily Show.
She is the author of the award-winning book, “The Art of Choosing,” listed in Amazon.com’s top 10 books in the business and investing field of 2010 and was shortlisted for the 2010 Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.
In 2011, she was named a member of the Thinkers50, a global ranking of the top management thinkers.
She also was awarded the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching from Columbia Business School and chosen as one of the World’s Best Business School Professors by Poets and Quants.
