Lights Out In Waldwick: Christmas On Manhattan Cancelled For 2017

WALDWICK, N.J. — Despite high hopes that he would find the time to put his annual lights display together, Ralph DeWeil of Waldwick has pulled the plug on "Christmas on Manhattan" this year.

DeWeil earlier this week said that his display would be up and running by Thursday, Dec. 7 at the latest, but told Daily Voice that -- between work and his health -- it's lights out this year.

As with the neighbors' "DITTO —>" sign.

"The overwhelming amount of people who made this a tradition with their families is just amazing," said the father of three.

"You don’t know how much something is loved by so many others until something like this happens.

"I am truly blessed and honored. The unbelievable outpouring from everyone is just so touching."

DeWeil said he was stopped in ShopRite Thursday by nearly 10 people, asking for the display. It breaks his heart that he won't be able to have it up this year.

But 2018, he promised, will be one to remember.

"I just wasn’t able to put the needed time together this year," he said, "but I can promise you next year’s show will be one of the best I’ve ever produced."
