SADDLE BROOK, N.J.– A young Saddle Brook boy received a huge birthday surprise when one of the township's finest attended his cops and robbers-themed party.
Andrew Filan, 4, met Officer Christopher Stanton, who was happy to show the party goers his police cruiser and enjoy a hot dog with the birthday boy.
"The kids lined up, went into the patrol car and hit the sirens," said Andrew's mother, Lorraine. "They were really happy about it."
Andrew "was so in awe, he was speechless," she said. "He said he was shocked but happy."
Filan's theme party for her son included yellow police tape across the fence and doors, police car balloons, an obstacle course and beacon lights on every table.
Goody bags were filled with plastic handcuffs, badges, flashlights and hats.
"Andrew likes to dress in different costumes," Filan said. "But he really wants to be a police officer like his grandfather."
When Stanton arrived, Andrew changed into his police "uniform" and rode his new motorized "police motorcycle" down the driveway towards the officer.
Andrew later got a ride around the block in Stanton's vehicle.
During the trip, Stanton called into dispatch.
"The officers at the station all wished Andrew a happy birthday," the proud mother said.
