Gloria Ciba, 87, Of Elmwood Park

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Gloria Ciba (nee Kardell), 87, of Elmwood Park, died passed away Friday, Dec. 18. 

Originally from Lodi, her family relocated to Jersey City in the downtown area when she was very young. She remained there until a few years after her marriage in 1955 to Joseph Ciba, who predeceased her in 2010. She then resided in North Bergen, Wallington and for the last 40 years in Elmwood Park. 

Ciba primarily was a homemaker but still found time for a career working for many department store chains. At one time, she also had New Jersey real estate and insurance salesperson licenses. She retired 25 years ago from the workforce and spent remaining years devoting more time to her family. She had a great love for sewing and animals, especially her cats. 

She was a graduate of Ferris High School in Jersey City. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s in Jersey City, St. Anthony’s in Union City, Most Holy Name Church in Garfield and St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church in Fair Lawn. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Stella Kardell. 

She is survived by her sons, John of Elmwood Park, Roger and wife his Cindy of Franklin Lakes, Damon and his wife Stacy of Hackettstown, and Joel of Ringvdgen, Sweden. She also is survived by two grandchildren, Nicole and Matthew, in addition to many nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by a son, Bruce in 2005; her brothers, Anthony, Joseph and Edward; a sister, Helen Kardell Gleason; three brothers-in-law, Edward, Francis and Andrew; and one sister-in-law, Helen. 

The funeral service will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, from Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home Inc., 274 Market St., Elmwood Park. There will be a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Fair Lawn. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. 

Visiting hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home.
