Henry C. Fitschen, 74, Of Saddle Brook

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — Henry C. Fitschen, 74, of Saddle Brook, died Saturday, Sept. 24.

He was born in Jersey City and raised in West New York and North Bergen. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University's Teaneck campus in 1969.

He was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church in Saddle Brook. An active and dedicated member of the Saddle Brook recreation community, he served as the director of recreation for 11 years, as well as a coach in soccer, softball, baseball and basketball. He was a member of the Lions Club Saddle Brook Chapter and served on the board of directors of Lincoln Park Savings. An avid bowler and golfer, he was a fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (D’Arelli) Fitschen; children, Keith Fitschen and wife Jacquelyn, Deborah Buttner and husband Garrett and Nicole Olshalsky and husband Stephen; grandchildren, Jessica, Kacey, Julianna, Taylor and Sydney; great-grandchildren, Winry and Marielle; and sister, Katherine Leone.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 488 Saddle River Road, Saddle Brook. Entombment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
