Jack C. Wasdyke, 73, Of Saddle Brook

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. – Jack C. Wasdyke, a longtime resident of Saddle Brook, died Oct. 16. He was 73.

Wasdyke was born to Carrie (nee Bakker) and Gerard Wasdyke, graduating from Fairleigh Dickinson University, William Paterson University and Montclair University.

He taught at Edison School in Union City, Pascack Valley and Pascack Hills High Schools and Bergen Community College, moving on to become an administrator at Franklin Elementary School in Saddle Brook, Saddle Brook High School and Helen I. Smith Elementary School before retiring in 2000.

Wasdyke also served as Saddle Brook historian, publishing “Saddle Brook: A Portrait of Our Past” and contributing historical articles on the town's website.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother Jerry, and is survived by his wife Catherine (nee Sciacca), two daughters, Catherine Duriske and her husband Richard of Toms River, Valerie Smith and her late husband Douglas of Bellefonte, Pa., and three grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, with funeral services set for 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
