James Schmidig, 47, Of Elmwood Park

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- James Schmidig, 47, of Elmwood Park, passed away suddenly Thursday, April 7, 2016. 

He was raised and resided in Fair Lawn most of his life, living in Toms River for five years before recently moving to Elmwood Park. 

Schmidig was an active member of Metro Church in Waldwick. A rock and roll fan, he also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and video games. He will be remembered for his caring nature and as a devoted caregiver to his mom. He was a landscaper with Dell Landscaping in Toms River. 

He was the brother of Donna Hall and her late husband Warren; and son of the late Walter J. and Jean (Worschak) Schmidig. He also is survived by many loving cousins and extended family members.

He was predeceased by his dear friend Scott Meyerson. 

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa.
