SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- Mary Jane Hughes, of Saddle Brook, died on Wednesday, Dec. 21. She was 89.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Hughes was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Manhattan. A founding and longtime parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Saddle Brook, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.
"She will be remembered for her unending devotion to her family," information from the funeral home noted.
Hughes is survived by her children, Lawrence Hughes and his wife Mary, Joseph Hughes and his wife Jacqueline, and William Hughes and his wife Sandra; grandchildren Katie Spero and her husband Michael, Elisabeth Husby and her husband Andrew, Colleen, Laura, Calla, Gabriella, Lawrence and John.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Hughes; daughter Mary Jane Hughes; granddaughter Meghan Hughes; and her four brothers and four sisters.
Visiting hours were on Monday, Dec. 26, at the Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Rd., in Fair Lawn. A funeral mass is planned for 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Philip the Apostle Church. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
