The 23-year-old Utica woman told police she was headed west on West Clinton Avenue when her 2005 Honda Civic got stuck in a gravel ditch along the railroad tracks as she tried to make a right turn onto South Front Street at 1:50 a.m., Capt. Mustafa Rabboh said.
She “attempted to drive the vehicle out of the ditch but was unsuccessful,” he said.
A witness who was stopped behind her got out of his car and warned her that a train was coming.
She got out moments before the train struck the Civic’s front driver’s side bumper, sending it spinning, Rabboh said.
The car sustained extensive damage but no one was injured, the captain said.
A CSX representative responded, the car was towed and the train continued on its way, he said.
