An Elmwood Park police officer stopped 24-year-old Rodney Gonzalez’s car on Van Riper Avenue just before 7:30 last night, moments after he pushed past a Wal-Mart security guard and took off on Route 46 West, Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Saddle Brook Sgt. Tony Maneri showed up with the security guard, who identified Gonzalez as the thief, Kugler said.

Gonzalez was released without bail pending a Municipal Court hearing on theft and shoplifting charges.

Kugler said the quickness and determination of all of those involved made the arrest possible.
