The broke out in a furnace at the single-story Clean Shirts Inc. building in the 400 block of Market Street behind the Elmwood Park Diner just before 7:15 p.m., Police Chief Michael Foligno told Daily Voice.

A Saddle Brook FAST team joined their Elmwood Park colleagues, along with Fair Lawn, Lodi and Rochelle Park firefighters.

"According to fire officials, the fire was caused by a mechanical problem with the furnace," Foligno said. "Damage consisted of an approximate 20-x-20 foot hole in the roof directly above the utility room, as well as fire damage to several walls and doors inside of the building."

Police closed Boulevard from Market to Van Riper Avenue.
