Ex-Elmwood Park Athlete Paroled In Teen Sex Assault Video Charged In Holdup

The 17-year-old victim told police he was walking through the Elmwood Village Apartment Complex on Donor Avenue around 5 p.m. Sunday when five robbers approached him, Police Chief MIchael Foligno said.

One of them pulled a handgun and put it to his head while the others stole his jacket, two necklaces and his cellphone, the chief told Daily Voice.

He was then struck hard in the rib area with the handgun, causing bruising and pain, Foligno said.

The victim then ran to a nearby Walgreens and asked an employee to call police.

Responding officers found the group moments later and took them into custody.

Three of them are 16 years old and one is 17 -- three from Elmwood Park and one from Paterson, Foligno said.

The fifth, he said, was 21-year-old Ashari Wilson, who was one of four men spared prison time last year after admitting their roles in the videotaped sex assault from July 2014.

As part of his guilty plea, Wilson agreed to lifetime parole supervision -- meaning he could immediately be sent to prison if he violated any of the provisions.

The teens were served with delinquency complaints and taken to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center in Teterboro.

Wilson was ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing on charges of robbery and various weapons counts.
