Fair Lawn Police Arrest Newark Man On Numerous Weapon, Burglary Charges

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — A Newark man was arrested and sent to Bergen County Jail after police responded to a report of a suspicious person in Fair Lawn early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Around 1:20 a.m., Fair Lawn police located Timothy Jeffery, 47, inside a vehicle parked in a driveway at a residence on Dewey Place, Sergeant Brian Metzler said.

 Once ordered to exit the vehicle, Jeffery tossed a wallet into nearby grass that had been in the vehicle and recovered by police, Metzler said. 

 While being placed under arrest, Jeffery dropped a folding knife that was hidden in his shirt sleeve, the sergeant said. 

Items found in his possession that were taken from the vehicle included the wallet, a backpack with marijuana and a container of coins, authorities said.

 An arrest warrant was also located out of Newark for $10,000 and Jeffrey was charged with the following, police said:

  • Burglary
  • Theft
  • Receiving stolen property,
  • Possession of credit cards without the owner’s consent
  • Possession of a controlled dangerous substance
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Certain persons not to possess weapons 
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon

The marijuana found in the backpack belonged to the owner of the vehicle, Melanie Acosta, 24 of Fair Lawn, who was arrested, then released after being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance & possession of drug paraphernalia, Metzler said.
