Officers Mark MacQuesten and Francis O’Brien were on Route 208 when they spotted the car, which had been reported stolen out of Newark last Thursday, around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Capt. John Bakelaar said.

A brief pursuit ended on Route 287 when the driver, 40-year-old Larry Simms of Asbury Park, voluntarily pulled over, the captain said.

Simms, who was wanted on a parole violation, was being held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing on charges of motor vehicle theft and eluding, Bakelaar said.

He also received summonses for driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, making an unsafe lane change and failing to yield to a pedestrian, the captain said.
