The fires apparently were ignited on the Main and Bergen Line tracks by a defective part on an NJ Transit train that made it as far as Harriman, NY.

There was some property damage -- mostly involving fences and light poles.

Firefighters from Ridgewood, Hawthorne, Midland Park, Fair Lawn, Paramus, and Wyckoff joined their Glen Rock colleagues.
