Hackensack Man Could Be Free In 3 Years For Sex Assault On Teaneck Girl, 11

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A 21-year old Hackensack man could be freed from prison in three years after admitting for a second time that he forced an 11-year-old Teaneck girl to give him oral sex.

Quashawn Nowlin originally pleaded guilty and then withdrew the plea after the girl's mother said she'd prefer he get counseling instead of prison time.

But he returned to court on Friday -- and managed to get a year shaved from the first deal.

Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Kristin DeMarco agreed to seven years this time, of which Nowlin would have to serve nearly six.

By the time he's sentenced on March 4, however, he'll have two years and seven months jail credit -- meaning he can be out by 2019.

Nowlin was on the verge of being sentenced last July when the girl's mother asked the judge not to send him to prison.

The woman then was accused of trying to bribe Nowlin's attorney, Peter Koulikourdis.

Her daughter was removed from her mother's car and was living with an aunt as New Jersey child welfare authorities work to permanently place her in protective care.

Koulikourdis, meanwhile, withdrew from the case.

After a few months with new defense attorney Ilene McFarlane, Nowlin took a new deal and pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault. McFarlane also said she will argue for a five-year sentence, not seven, from Superior Court Judge Margaret M. Foti.

Nowlin was originally charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault for having the child perform oral sex on him, and a lesser charge of fondling her breasts and child endangerment via sexual conduct, between May and September 2013.

He assaulted the girl no fewer than four times in that span, authorities said at the time.

The victim told her sister, who then alerted the girl’s mother. She, in turn, contacted the state Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P), which notified the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
