Knife-Wielding Paterson Man Shot By Police Dies

PATERSON, N.J. – A knife-wielding Paterson man shot by police died Thursday morning, authorities said.

Ramon Andrade, 37, was holding the weapon when two off-duty officers responding to a call of a man acting erratically on Levine Street encountered him at 9:30 a.m. March 2, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdess aid.

“During the encounter, one of the officers discharged a firearm, striking [Andrade],” Valdes said. “A knife was recovered at the scene.”

Andrade was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, where he died Thursday morning, she said.

Next-of-kin have been notified and a medical examiner will conduct a post-mortem in Newark, the prosecutor said.
