The master bedroom and living room area of the Birk Street residence “were ransacked and in disarray,” Deputy Police Chief Robert White said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Dept. Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence at the scene. Saddle Brook police were investigating.

“With the upcoming final days of summer and Labor Day weekend, and the fact that many residents will be away, there is potential for burglaries to increase,” White warned.

Residents and business owners “are urged to protect their property by safeguarding and hiding their valuables, and alerting neighbors and friends to keep a watchful eye out for one another’s homes and property.”
