SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- Working with other departments, Saddle Brook police arrested two men who they said stole more than $5,600 worth of cigarettes.
A judge ordered Paul Dickson, 31, of Cedar Street held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail and Abdul Hardy, 49, of Madison Avenue in Paterson released on a summons.
It began with an Oct. 13 report of two cartons of cigarettes stolen on Oct. 13 from a local Quick Check, followed by the theft of 720 more packs, Police Chief Robert Kugler said.
Detective Lt. Thomas Kivari, Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Panagia and Detective John Tritto worked with their colleagues from Bogota, Fairview and Hackensack to identify and track down both men in Paterson, Kugler said.
Dickson and Hardy also were suspected in shopliftings in Bloomingdale, Clifton, Little Falls, North Bergen, Pequannock, West New York, and Wayne, the chief said.
