Ski-Masked Gunman Robs Elmwood Park 7-Eleven

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. – (UPDATE) A ski-masked gunman held up two area businesses overnight Thursday – a gas station in Mahwah and a 7-Eleven in Elmwood Park, authorities said.

The robber stuck a silver handgun with a black grip in the attendant’s face at the Liberty Gas Station/Quick Stop Deli on northbound Route 17 around 3 a.m. Thursday, Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli said.

The attendant was pulling money from the register for him when the robber “reached over the counter and began to remove cash,” Batelli said.

He then ran from the store to an another attendant who was sitting in a booth by the pumps, the chief said – but he told the robber he didn’t have any cash.

The gunman then ran toward the back of Coach Bus depot on Leisure Lane with about $400, he said.

A perimeter was set up around the Sheraton parking lot and surrounding area, but the robber vanished, Batelli said.

He was described the robber as dark-skinned and wearing dark-colored pants with zippers near the knee, a blue sweatshirt, green tee shirt and gloves.

“It’s the exact same description as the Elmwood Park 7-Eleven [robber],” Batelli said.

The robber entered the store at the corner of Market Street and Mola Boulevard around 4:15 a.m., pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money before fleeing with the car to a getaway car with tinted windows parked in an adjoining lot, Police Chief Michael Foligno said.

The robber was described as black, aobut 6 feet tall and wearing dark clothing along with the ski mask.
