YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST:
A critically injured Saddle Brook man was breathing when firefighters cut him from his SUV after it slammed into a UPS tractor trailer in Elmwood Park tonight, responders at the scene told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. as the rig driver made a left from East 54th Street onto Molnar Drive.

The SUV slammed into the trailer, shearing off its top, Police Chief Michael Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Borough firefighters, joined by Saddle Brook Fire Department Rescue 1, removed the 45-year-old driver from the rear of the vehicle.

He was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center with severe injuries, Foligno said.

A heavy-duty wrecker was summoned to lift the rear of the tractor so that another wrecker could pull out the SUV.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigations team responded along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification, which was collecting evidence.
