The move came after he incorrectly reported the number of classified emails Huma Abedin had sent to her husband, Anthony Weiner, the New York Post reports.

"Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office," the White House said in a statement.

"President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions."

Comey was born in Yonkers, N.Y. and grew up in Allendale, where he attended Northern Highlands Regional High School. He currently lives in Westport, Conn.
