With the help of teachers Cheryl Pascal and Gina Stevens, the backpacks were given to children in need.

Goddard school officials say the project is one of several they've been involved with to teach student the importance of friendship, kindness and compassion.

“Teaching young children to help others creates a foundation for character development by building a strong sense of self, the importance of caring for others and an awareness of their ability to influence the world in positive ways,” said Anthony Vassallo, on-site owner of The Goddard School in Norwood.

Other programs in which the school participates are Toys for Tots and food and clothing drives. For more information on the Goddard School, visit its website.
