SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — The borough's public school students are starting the year off with a new district logo that reads: "believing in our students, supporting their dreams."
The new graphic design is in alignment with the district's mission, Schools Superintendent Richard Katz told the Daily Voice.
"In referring to the work of the past two years, one of the major changes was to re-establish the vision of the district," Katz said.
"The statement in this new logo came directly from the input of stakeholders during the vision building process. It is a statement that should be the driving force behind everything we do."
The logo's torches represent “the ability for each of us to serve as a guiding light for others and for the ability of education to serve as a beacon of light, eradicating ignorance," said Katz in an update he sent to to parents this month.
"Many (of) our scholars always remember that lighting the way for others, brightens the path for themselves."
The district approved four goals for the 2015-16 school year, Katz' update says:
1. Create a parent education program to help build a closer home –school partnership, with a specific focus on academic topics.
2. To better leverage technology through increased student collaboration through the use of Google Apps for Education and professional development.
3. Design a New Student Orientation/Mentoring program that provides new students with thorough and ongoing transitional support.
4. Create a more philosophically cohesive administrative team through the implementation of a team study group that develops conversation, empowerment and shared vision among administrative leaders.
"The past two years have seen many new initiatives, and changes in programs and services to students," Katz told the Daily Voice. "This year is really focused on making it work."
