Quilt Will Commemorate Elmwood Park's 100th Year

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- As part of its year-long 2016 centennial celebration, the Elmwood Park Centennial Art Committee is hand-crafting a quilt commemorating the history of the town.

Volunteers are being recruited to participate in cutting and sewing the quilt blocks that will be assembled into an artifact of the centennial events.

Art Committee chairman Lenore Madrachimov is organizing the volunteers and work for the quilt, which will be displayed at every centennial event throughout the year until the final Gala in December, when a raffle winner will be announced.

The committee plans to sell raffle tickets at all centennial events throughout the year.

The centennial celebration will be the biggest town-wide event in recent memory. Among the events planned are two parades and an art fest. Madrachimov says artisans should plan ahead for the Art Fest the first weekend in May, which will be a judged event and accept all forms of arts and crafts.

Anyone who wants to participate in crafting the quilt should contact Madrachimov by email (preferred), or by phone. The goal for completing the quilt is the first event in February, 2016. Written instructions for sewing and cutting will be provided, and Madrachimov says if you can cut a straight line and sew a seam on a sewing machine, your help is needed.

To be a part of this event, email Madrachimov for quilting instructions at epquilt@gmail.com, or phone her at 201 797-3257.
