Saddle Brook Woman's Club Continues Growth

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — The Saddle Brook Woman's Club nearly tripled its size in its three years of existence but could always use more members, its president said.

Maria Vullo, the only president in the club's history, said they started with 16 members after reforming from the Ladies of Unico in May 2012. They've since grown to 44 members.

"We've had a consistent climb in membership," Vullo told Daily Voice. "We're trying to bring in a younger crowd, and it's a little bit easier to do since now it's open to basically anyone."

The club, which finds various ways to help and fundraise for the community, has mostly members from Saddle Brook but some from nearby towns like Lodi, Garfield and Hackensack as well. Members used to have to be of Italian descent too, Vullo said.

The group donates to a number of charities including Domestic Violence Against Woman, Betty Torricelli Foundation, local student college scholarships, Saddle Brook Little League Challenger League, Saddle Brook ambulance and fire departments, Valerie Fund, and more.

"It's just very rewarding," Vullo said. "The members have a great time. They socialize, they get to help the community. They get to help their favorite charities. It's both social and has purpose."

Their largest fundraiser of the year, a tricky tray, will be held at 6 p.m. April 14 at The Venetian in Garfield.
