ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. -- Arthur Joseph Higgins Sr., a Elmwood Park resident, died on Saturday, Sept. 5. He was 88.
He was born to George and Mary (Devlin) Higgins on June 22, 1927, in Newark, N.J.
Higgins served in the U. S. Coast Guard, merchant marine during World War II and the Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church for more than 60 years. He worked as a vice president for New Jersey Bank for many years. He was also a member of the Holy Name Cadets in the Color Guard/Garfield Cadets.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen Bozyk and siblings, George, Emily, Edward, Harriett, Agnes, Frank, Joseph, John.
Higgins is survived by his four children, Arthur (Maryse) Higgins, Kathleen (George) Lee, Janet Higgins, Linda (John Bockstege); a sister Patricia Hoffner and a brother-in-law, Clayton Hoffner; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joseph, Sarah, Kelly, Artie, Arthur, John; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass was Friday at St. Leo’s Church, Elmwood Park, and Interment at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi.
Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, 274 Market St., Elmwood Park, handled the arrangements.
