Two families with 10 people were displaced and were being housed in a local hotel by the Red Cross, Mayor Robert White said

Preliminary indications are that an electrical problem in a first-floor bedroom ignited the Saddle River Road blaze between Oxford Avenue and Alberta Drive at 3:16 a.m.

"The fire vented out a window and spread up into the second floor," Fire Chief Tom Dickman told Daily Voice.

Elmwood Park, Fair Lawn and Lodi firefighters joined their colleagues at the scene, while Garfield and Lodi covered the town, Dickman said.

"They did a terrific job getting it under control," the mayor told Daily Voice. "Damage was kept to a minimum."

Dickman, the fire chief, thanked the Saddle Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corps. the firefighters from all other towns who assisted and township police.
